IU Groups Scholars Program

The Groups Scholars program was first established in 1968 to address low college attendance rates among underrepresented students at Indiana University. Funded by the Higher Education Act of 1965, and supported by the University’s strong commitment of additional resources and services, the Groups Scholars Program admits more than 300 students yearly, and has an alumni roster of close to 12,000 individuals. In order to participate a student must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a resident of the state of Indiana
  2. Be a US Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen (Has a green card)
  3. Meet the income and eligibility guidelines
  4. Have a minimum Cumulative High School GPA of at least 2.5
  5. Take the SAT or ACT by the October date.
  6. Complete the minimum (34 semesters) college preparatory courses

Some of the Perks of the Groups Program include:
  • Free six week summer program that prepares students for life on a college campus
  • Great support system that includes access to tutoring, help with scheduling, smaller advisor ratios
  • Financial assistance- IU Groups Freshman Grant
