Closed-Enjoy your Spring Vacation!

Dear Students, Parents, and Staff:

The SSC School Year Calendar now allows for students and staff members to enjoy two (2) weeks away from school.  The week of March 27-31, 2017 was scheduled for weather-related make-up days and these days are not needed as instructional time.  The week of April 3-7, 2017 is the scheduled spring vacation for SSC.  Please enjoy your vacation and we will see everyone on Monday, April 10th, 2017.

In order to keep up with 21st century educational strategies, Shenandoah will provide training for staff members six (6) times throughout the 2016-2017 school year using a two-hour late arrival format.  The plan would be to offer topics relevant to our biggest needs on the 2016-2017 Professional Development Plan.  Staff members would participate in various trainings each month that would be differentiated for their individual professional growth.

The primary goals of the professional development will be technology integration, curriculum alignment, effective data usage, and active engagement/best practice strategies.

Congratulations to the students, teachers, and staff at SHENANDOAH HIGH SCHOOL for once again being named an IDOE Four Star School. This latest recognition is for the 2014-15 school year.

The dedication to student achievement displayed throughout all of our schools contributes to the success of our high school students.

On Thursday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m., kindergarten students will share their spring music program.  Students will be sharing songs and games from their music class with families and friends in the SES Gym.  Our songs will be woven throughout the story, Mama, Why? by Karma Wilson (author of Bear Snores On).  Don't miss it!

On Thursday, March 23, join us at 6:30 p.m. for the Fifth Grade Music Program/USA on Display event.  The performance will take place in the SES Gym.  Each class has created their own drum piece to share, as well as several patriotic songs.  We even have 5th grade students providing a live band for one of our songs!  There will also be artwork on display.  You won't want to miss it!

Ahoy!  The Shenandoah Singers will present Pirates! The Musical, on Thursday, April 27.  The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the SES Gym.  Join us as the choir shares the tale of a band of swashbuckling pirates, their fearless leader the King of the High C's, and a couple of stowaways who are out to win a singing contest.  It's sure to be a rollicking adventure, arrrgh!

Dear Parent/Guardian:

The Indiana State Department of Health Immunization Division annually reviews and updates the immunizations required for school entry.  Changes to the 2016-2017 School Immunization Requirements are as follows:

1.      Two (2) doses of Hepatitis A vaccine (Hep A) are required for all students entering kindergarten or first grade.

2.      One (1) dose of a meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) and one (1) dose of TDap is required for ALL students in grades 6 through 11.

3.      One (1) booster dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) is required for ALL students in grade 12.

What this means for your student is that they will need to receive one more meningitis vaccine prior to the start of the 2016-2017 school year.  Proof of immunization MUST be received prior to the first day of school.  This proof may be turned in at any time during the current school year or during registration for the 2016-2017 school year.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 354-6636.
